A political move?
Former deputy Ibny Zopp claimed that the timing of the state investigation had nothing to do with this year’s election. He pointed out that Jenkins’ original charges were filed in 2004.
“Mr. Jenkins has no control over what the attorney general does,” Zopp said. “He did the right thing, went to the right people.”
“It’s not sour grapes,” Zopp continued. “If you had four or five people with the same response, maybe. But you have numerous people, past and present. They didn’t get together and say ’let’s bash Sheriff Hart’And none of us had a fait of problem when we went somewhere else.”
Mqjor Jim Branch of the Sheriff’s Office was quick to defend his boss. As the chief deputy, Branch claimed that many of the former officers had discipline problems.
“This is a law enforcement agency, responsible for life or death situations at times,” Branch said. “It is a paramilitary organization, unlike a small business or other businesses.
“With any job, no matter what sector, there are responsibilities and expectations,” he continued. “ "If those are not met, there are consequences.”
Branch also questioned the timing, and asking whether politics were at stake.
