“There are a lot of people here that. are ready to leave because they can’t afford to live here,” he said flatly. “Somebody somewhere has .got to do something about the increasing taxes.”
Tbm Junk suggested that the board take a look at the amount of teachers in the school system.
“We are at a low teacher-perpupil ratio,” he said. “If you got rid of 16 teachers you would still beat one teacher for every 15 kids.”
Junk stated that the school board should level fund the budget.
“The county needs to hire an efficiency manager to look at the school all the way down the line,” he stated.
Daniel Mulcahy from the Wakefield district said the Board of Supervisors should spend tax dollars more wisely.
Tm one who doesn’t care if power lines go through Rappahannock or not,” he said about the supervisors’ decision to spend money fighting Dominion Virginia Power’s power line proposal. “Instead of giving $50,000 to the lawyers, give it to the teachers.”
Mulcahy added, “The lawyers don’t need that money, they’re not hurting much.”
