A Supervisors meeting on Rappahannock County’s proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 took place at the county courthouse on May 8. Approximately 90 people attended.
The supervisors are taking a long, hard look at the proposed $3.6 million budget, which is up 29 percent from last year. There was some hint of taxpayer relief even if the entire proposed budget were to be passed: it was announced that the real estate tax rate necessary to meet the proposed budget would be $.64, down from an original estimate of $.58. The personal property tax rate also was projected, at $6.60 per $100 of assessed valuation.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the public to support — or oppose — proposed budget items. Nearly a dozen citizens spoke on behalf of their respective organization’s budget request. Road Crew Maintenance

Resident engineer Don Askew solicited questions by district on the proposed 1964-’85 improvements of the six-year highway plan.
