Many of the Burke family’s creations originate in some local pine tree, field, forrest or along the country roadside. These items are just the materials that become the crafts, however.
“I have six to 10 acres of big pines where I get my pine cones,” Brad said. Right now, they’re good and bright. The teasels, milkweed and goldenrod I cut on the side of the road on my way here. I pick the acorns, and peach pits have good color. All are sprayed with polyurethane.”
Last year, the pine cone wreaths were a hot item. “I had a ball,” Brad recalled.
