In addition to being < a professional seamstress, housewife and homemaker, Katherine has been an active member of the Amissville Baptist Church for 60 years and arranges the church (lowers for four months of the year. She has served on numerous church committees, prepared communion for 28 years, taught Sunday school for 35 years and is still a substitute teacher. She’s also an amateur historian who has researched her family tree.
A direct descentdent of the Amiss family for whom the village is named, she is married to Stanish W. Riley, also an Amissville native.
In summing up her 60 yean in Extension Homemaking, the Amissville club’s 1978 yearbook, dedicated to Katherine Riley, says it best: “Katherine is always willing to share her knowledge. With her wit and pleasant manner, she is •joy to ill who know her."
