But for the most of the day, it was business as usual, with the couple behind the cash register, handing out change and neighborly conversation to patrons doing their weekend shopping.
“The weather cooperated. This is real nice,” answered Graham, smiling in response to congratulations. “It’s supposed to end at 4 p.m. but if they keep coming, we'll keep giving them Pepsi Colas and hotdogs.”
Asked if he has any plans for retirement after minding the store for a half century, Graham Hackley answered. “I may have to phase out a little bit in the next year or two but I plan to go on a little while longer. I’m supposed to be here another 50 years!” he concluded, with a twinkle in his eye.
