Last year, Barbara was Congressman J. Kenneth Robinson’s senior intern, spending several weeks during the summer on Washington, D.C.’s Capitol Hill. She also writes a regular column for the publication, “Virginia Postmaster,’ Barbara has handled the assignment for 19 years, twice winning awards for her journalistic endeavor.
Her long standing involvement with Extension Homemakers continues to bring her personal satisfaction. She sees the program being just as meaningful today as it was during hard times when women put the skills they’d learned at club meetings to use in feeding and clothing their families.
“Extension Homemaking can be very helpful to young homemakers who are just starting out. So many young people who begin families today have no idea what to feed them except junk food. Many young women are absolutely stumped by having little children. Our nutrition programs can be especially helpful to them. A lot of it is still the same thing— making do with what you have,” Barbara said.
“I sure believe in Extension Homemaking! It’s something I’ve been interested in all my life,” she continued. “I’ve enjoyed it ever since I joined and I’ve reaped so many benefits.”
