It was a bedraggled, droopy and dripping bunch that piled into the bus for the trip back to Rappahannock County High School from last Thursday's Bull Run District track championships in Berryville.
After an undefeated season for both squads and high hopes for district, the RCHS girls’ contingent finished third and the boys fifth. But there were still grins aplenty among the water soaked athletes as 20 Panthers qualified for this week's regional. Distance ace Scott Keithley wore the widest smile after setting two district records. "What would he have done on a clear day!” wondered coach Ann Spieker, pointing out that the RCHS senior established new marks in the mile and two mile in the pouring rain.
