Her achievements read much like those of any great achiever. She reared 10 children, many of whom either live near her or are in the process of moving close to her again. She is a great cook, perhaps an even greater counselor. She has been an active member of the Flint Hill Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She has inspired short stories and poems. And to people who know her best, the children she raised on a modest 20-acre farm, she’s Mom.
Her name is Alice Brady, born Alice Lillard in Winchester, Va., in 1904. She was one of six children, three boys, three girls. Her father, James Lillard, was a carpenter. Her mother, the former Elizabeth “Betty” Jenkins, worked at home raising the children. Betty taughter her children simple values of love, honesty and understanding. These same values Mrs. Brady believes she has merely passed along.
