The things the Burke learned last year made Brad sure that this was the business he was looking for.
“One of the things that sold well last year was pine cone wreaths,” Brad explained while holding one up. “Ninety percent of the cones (on this one) are Virginia scrub pine.
“One day I was in here working on one, and some people came in from D.C.,” Brad continued. “They said, ‘Hi,’ and then whispered to each other, ‘Look, he’s actually back there making it.’
“There’s a benefit in making things locally,” Brad said. “When people go into an area, they feel in their hearts they, are buying something that grew here. They’ve got a local treasure. It has a lot more value. People know it’s not from Taiwan. There’s a lot of satisfaction in making something and having someone like it well enough to buy it.”
