Robert Estabrook, superintendent of Rappahannock County Schools since 1981, has resigned. The announcement followed an executive session of the School Board Monday morning.
Mr. Estabrook said he is leaving “to accept a position with the Staff of the University of Virginia,” beginning on Aug. 1. He said he will have two primary areas of responsibility, as Assistant Executive Secretary of the National Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts, an organization located at the University of Virginia, “working with its staff to carry out their program”, and teaching in the Department of Education Administration of the Curry School of Education. “The details of that position have not yet been finalized,” he added.
He said that after discussions over the past V/2 months, he learned last Wednesday he would be offered the position. He informed School Board Chairman Beverly Massie of his intention on Friday, and his resignation was accepted by the School Board on Monday.
“Naturally, I’m very sorry to see him go,” Mrs. Massie said. “We were fortunate to have him - I’m thankful for all the good things he has done for the district. I wish him well.
