The firm is asking $222,960 for the contract, to run from July 1, 1987, to June 30, 1988. In addition, the county would pay, through BFI, an additional $25 per ton tip fee to the landfill operator. The county presently generates between 15 and 16 tons of trash per day.
Mr. McCarthy added that the contract is negotiable. The bid is based on BFI hauling the garbage to Richmond for disposal. If a closer site can be found, the figure could be adjusted down.
Frances Semones, representing the Citizens for Jackson District, asked if the board was aware that a new landfill had opened recently near Haymarket. 'Hie supervisors said they were not aware of it, but would look into the possibility of using that site if it were available.
Lorraine Early also asked that a detailed site plan of the facility proposed for the Stover tract - including fencing, screening, location of the trenches, liners, the dog pound building and buffers to adjoining property - as well as the site’s relation to water on the property, be published in the Rappahannock News.
“We’re still a long way from that,” Mr. McCarthy added.
In reply to a question from Mrs. Early, he said that the drilling re‘ port from the Stdver tract should be available by the board’s next regular meeting on July 6.
