the use of electronic classrooms in the five educational television broadcast areas of the state: Falls Church, Harrisonburg, Norfolk, Richmond and Roanoke. Physics and foreign languages are likely to be added to the courses presently available. The electronic classroom may provide the only way that the courses and quality of instruction offered in the most affluent suburban school systems can be made available in the poor and rural school districts.
Computers are another tool
Increased use of computers is also being examined as an equalizer, both in school management and in remedial and advanced, as well as regular, instructional programs. We already know that technology can help all children learn. It has been found to be particularly effective with low-achieving students and to help increase the performance of many special education students, especially handicapped students who would otherwise have difficulty communicating their thoughts and ideas. The Commission recommended that a foundation-level computer system be installed in every school in the Commonwealth.
