Mr. Gilkey emphasized that the county will continue to pursue other alternatives to dispose of its trash until the landfill is operational. “It’s just a possibility, but we might still be able to get another county to take some.”
After hearing of Culpeper County’s acceptance of Rappahannock’s request for assistance with the trash problem, Mr. McCarthy had nothing but praise for Culpeper’s supervisors, and the helpful attitude of the neighboring county.
“I’m very pleased that Culpeper has seen fit to provide us with a temporary solution to our problem. It is a privilege which we will not abuse - we will utilize the opportunity responsibly. In the meantime we will continue to seek a permanent solution to our problem.
“We appreciate the opportunity which Culpeper County has given us. It is very timely. It is also a boon to our residents in’ terms of the amount of tax dollars which will be spent” to dispose of the county’s trash in the interim period between July 1 and the eventual permanent solution of the county’s solid waste disposal dilemma.
