if it s a choice between $1,000 a day to haul to Richmond, or $165 per day (the present rate) to use the Clark site, the choice seems obvious,” Mr. McCarthy added.
He noted that neither Mr. Clark, Community Trash (which holds the contract to dump in Mr. Clark’s privately owned landfill), nor the state Division of Solid Waste Management has been contacted about the possibility of yet another extension on use of the Clark site.
The board, he concluded, felt merely that it could not rule out any options, and wanted to make all its contingencies public knowledge.
Castleton tract probably unsuitable
Following a report to the Citizens’ Landfill Committee that 92 acres owned by the Leggetts on Rt. 626 near Castleton is for sale, the site was evaluated by the committee.
Chairman Mike Massie reported to the Board of Supervisors at Monday’s meeting that the tract is “probably not a good site.”
Mr. Massie said the primary obstacle to siting a landfill on the property is water. “This is the 15th site evaluated by the committee. All had some water - this had more ‘tiitn any of the others.” He said that several large streams criss-cross the property, dividing it into small
