Jefferson Cup
Wakefield sixth grader Ben Martin, of Shepherdstown, W. Va., competing against high school students from throughout Virginia, has won the prestigious silver Jefferson Cup of the Classical Association of Virginia for his Latin essay on sports in the Classical World.
The first-place Jefferson Cup is awarded to the student who writes the best paper on any of the assigned classical subjects.
Ben, a first-year Latin student in Kay Larrieu’s class, says he is looking forward to continuing his studies in Latin at Wakefield in the years ahead.
