Circus coming to Washington
Franzen Brothers Circus will be coming to Washington Fire Department grounds on Tuesday, May 15. Show times are 5:30 and 8 p.m. Elephants, lion, tigers, jugglers, aerialists, tumblers and of course clowns will all be on hand for the event and will take place under the circus big top. Tickets are $4 for children and seniors, $6 for adults and children under two will be admitted free. The circus is sponsored by the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.

• 'Dad' at Theater
The movie Dad will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre Friday and Sunday, May 4 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. each evening. The movie stars Jack Lemmon and Olympia Dukakis. Jack Lemon gives a rich and memorable performance of Jack Tremont, who is barely living when his ambition-blinded stockbroker son (Ted Danson) crosses the country to care for him through his wife’s (Olympia Dukakis) hospitalization. The movie is rated PG.
Band concert May 24
The Rappahannock County High School concert band will hold its spring concert on Thursday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited.
Chili cook-off
A sanctioned Superride Chili Cook-off is being planned for this area on May 27. The event will be held at Four Winds Farms in Sperryville. For more information, call Tim Evetts at (703) 765-5097.
High school orientation
All parents of current seventh graders at RCES are invited to an orientation program at the high school on Thursday, May 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guidance counselor Joyce Good-Ewing will explain the options available to next year’s eighth graders, and principal John Toth, assistant principal David Smith and numerous faculty members will also be available to answer questions.
