And former mayor and councilman J. Newbill Miller took the fifth seat on the at-large council, receiving 56 votes.
Along with Mr. Wickens and Mr. Lynch, the other two unsuccessful candidates were BZA member Charles Eldred, who got 50 votes, and Planning Commissioner Arthur Neufeld, who polled 12.
“It’s a clear vote for fair government,” said Mayor Morehouse of the results.
Mr. Gooch agreed with the mayor’s assessment, adding that the result seemed to be a “mandate for compromise” over the Inn’s expansion plans.
“The results are a good representation of the town’s feelings, based on the turnout,” Mr. Eldred added, referring to the 94 percent participation.
