Braving heat and Fodderstack’s 13 incline course, 249 runners and walkers lined up for the 12th annual Fodderstack 10K Classic, Saturday, April 28, at 10 a.m.
With temperatures hovering around the 90 degree mark — possibly the reason for 19 registered nonparticipants and seven incompletes — Rappahannock’s Frank Reynolds captured his 10th Eva Smith Memorial while Flint Hill’s Nina Stamer took home her third.
“Everyone really enjoyed themselves,” Fodderstack committee member Jean Lillard said, adding the committee was very pleased with this year’s event, which saw probably 50 to 60 more runners and walkers than last year’s event. “It was a great day and everything went smoothly.”
Ms. Lillard added that the committee extends a special thanks to Fodderstack Road resident Gloria Harris for her hose at the three and one half mile mark. The hose —hung from a ladder — rap continuous cool water for the runners’ refreshment.
This year sponsored by Liberty Savings Bank of Warrenton, the race events concluded on the steps of the Washington Court House as trophies in eight categories were presented.
