He said that he hadn’t found the use in Schenectedy very effective. “Schenectedy is a pretty bad place to have solar energy,” he said. “They would just about break even, whether they use oil of this system.”
He said it could save the library money, however, because with no need to heat water with it, it would only be used in winter when its vertical orientation is not much of a problem, and because with the library chiefly used during the day there is no need to store daytime heat for nighttime use. He estimated that it could save about $400 per year in fuel oil bills and could be tied into the already planned heating system.
