Following the hearing Mr. Milton said that he had built a corral for horses at the edge of the area that would be condemned. “This will negate the value of it,” he said. His house is now 160 feet from the road but will be 150 feet or less from the road when construction is finished, he said. Mr. Milton’s property is generally higher than the road, and most of the taking from his land will be to cut the banks back.
Mr. Milton said that both he and the Paces had put major efforts into restoring and improving their properties. “I’m not arguing against the bridge,” he said. “I’m arguing for the south route. There are no great features on his side; what difference would it make if they changed the route. He made the most noise first and made a few points before I did.”
