I don’t think the story really supported its original premise though it did quote state Sen. Joseph Garlan, a Fairfax Democrat, as saying Gov. Wilder was playing “some pretty mean politics.”
But what has he actually done except redistribute some low numbered automobile license plates from people favored by Gerald Baliles, his predecessor, to those he favored; and to put in place of some Baliles’ appointees to boards and commissions people of his own choice.
Does that really constitute mean politics when Gov. Wilder is just exercising the same gubernatorial prerogatives as other chief executives before him? Ask people who knew Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon about mean politics.
