Mitch Terry was walked, and Tom Brown went in to run for him. He took second base on a Brentsville error, then stole third. When another error advanced the other Panther runner to second, a hard hit ground ball gave the Rams a fielders choice, scoring Brown.
Though their efforts at the plate have not paid off, the Panthers continue to rack up impressive numbers as base thieves. They racked up another five stolen bases in seven attempts, bringing the season total to 59-65 for the season.
Youth and inexperience are the team’s main problem, he said, and one which will work itself out as the players gain more time on the field. Their effort and determination, Coach Van Horn said, can’t be faulted. I’ve got a core of kids there who really work hard and stay in there. A couple of them got discouraged for a couple of games, but they got their heads up again and played a good game” against Brentsville.
The Panthers have five games remaining on their schedule. After playing Page County on Wednesday, May 2, they host George Mason at RCHS on Friday, May 4, followed by two rematches against Manassas Park at home on Monday, May 7 and Clarke County at RCHS on Tuesday, May 8. The season ends on the road against Brentsville May 10.
