Mr. Vickers began by reading from a letter by education association president Helen LaCava, who was unable to attend the meeting. “The budget is a way to move the beginning teachers salaries to the first in the region instead of the last,” he read. “That will show that Rappahannock County values education and is willing to pay for it. The salary increases in the past few years have been substantial. Most went into lifting the county from the bottom. Don’t stop now when the top is in sight.”
Mr. Vickers continued by saying that when he first came to teach in Rappahannock, some years there was a 40 percent turnover in staff, and one year math students had three different teachers. “This convinced me that continuity is important,” he said.
The supervisors will next con-' .sider the budget at their regular meeting next Monday, May 7, and will have another work session Monday, May 21. There will be a public hearing on the county budget at the supervisors next regular meeting on June 4.
