Other awards went to Clint Kiser for his 34:48 first place finish — the disk-like trophy’s female counterpart went to Lynn Patterson who finished the course with a time of 39:24.
The two missed the record times — and prize money of $150 for both records or $300 for one donated by Virginia Savings Bank in Front Royal — 31:26 for men, set by Steve Pinard of Hartwood in 1985, and 36:46 for women, set by Kim Belyea of Winchester in 1984.
“Everyone was saying their times were off by a few minutes,” Mrs. Stamer reported, adding she had hoped to break the 40 minute mark but ended with a time of 44:50.
“It was just too hot,” annual participant Dennis Wingfield of Sperry - ville said, adding he too added several minutes to his desired finish time.
