Sen. Emick noted that the public seldom gets worked up about such things as who gets appointed to university boards or state agencies. “So one of their (the Baliles’ administration’s) rich dudes gets replaced by one of Wilder’s rich dudes. Life is full of knocks.”
While some Democrats privately complain that Wilder and Shropshire are being petty and lacking in gratitude for many who were his supporters — even if not fervent supporters — Del. Warren Stambaugh of Arlington, a Democrat, beleives there is less here than meets the eye.
Other governors, said Del. Stambaugh, have flexed their new political muscles in similar manner, but Gov. Wilder has been more public about it and thus raised more public comment.
Somebody once said politics is hardball and President Harry S. Truman talked about being able to take the heat in the kitchen.
