The Rappahannock Health Department holds its annual Heart Fair and cholesterol screening, noon-3 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Friday, Feb. 14. , . There is a $5 fee for the cholesterol check, which goes to Fauquier Hospital to check the blood. Free blood-pressure checks and glucose screening will be offered, as well as information from the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society.

The Rappahannock Extension Homemakers will offer a “high dietary fiber" exhibit and will have high-fiber snack samples with recipes available.

The Rappahannock Athletic Association's annual baseball registration will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 22 and Feb. 29 for children afces 6-18 at the Amissville Fire Hall, the Flint Hill Fire Hall, and Rappahannock High.

Also, registration will be held from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Jeffersonton Community Center.

Fees are $15 per child or $25 per family with an extra $ 1 charge for a ;9 laminated Babe Ruth League ID card. The Babe Ruth cards serve as birthdate IDs and are good for all the years your child plays baseball. Parents are instructed to bring birth certificates to the registration. Sign-up for 16-18 year olds will be $20 per child.

This year the Rappahannotk Athletic .Association is seeking those interested in a girls' softball league. Registration for girls ages 8-16 will be done in conjunction with regular baseball and the fees are the same. If for some reason the girls teams cannot be organized, girls will have the option to play baseball or have the fee refunded.

Tryouts will be March 7, and Opening Day is April 25.
