Gov. Wilder announced last week that the Soho Center in Madison County will receive a $30,000 Innovation Grant from the Center on Rural Development (CORD). The Soho Center’s grant is the only one awarded by CORD to a child care group in all of Virginia.
The CORD Grant follows the Soho Center’s recent receipt of a $20,000 Planning Grant from the Virginia Council for Child Day Care and Early Childhood Programs.
The Soho Center is working with over 40 cooperating agencies, area employers, and community groups in a six county region that includes Rappahannock, Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Page.
“We are obviously very pleased that the CORD Initiative chose us for this grant. In these economic times, it is a very strong vote of confidence for our approach of focusing on family day care—both as a way to better educate children and to help the economics of rural areas.
