Mr. Reisler said he draws on concrete places and actual people for most of his material, as happened recently during a collaboration with musician John McCutcheon. He needed an actual person to start off a song about a calf getting stuck in a fence, and the name of the Rappahannock County sheriff came to mind. The song begins, “John Henry’s on the phone just now...”
“Any song or any piece is actually a combination of lots of things together,” he ,t saiA, byt m«»st of those “things"- are real. ^ - In that feense, the people and land of Rappahannock weave their way into the patterns of his music.
'Another example: Recently Mr. Reisler composed the theme music for a 13-part PBS series about rural America, and he titled it “Rappahannock.”
