seven days thanks to Cherokee’s generous donation of an extra day to make up for warm weather earlier in the season, was a rousing success.
The students, some of whom advanced three skills levels during their first week’s experience on skis, credit the creative teaching methods of their ski instructors Larry Shoud, Stephanie Handley, (a former student at the school) and Ray Johnson. Some older students were heard to say, “Last year we hated to go to classes, but this year we didn’t want classes to end.”
Dietmar Tannheiser, ski school supervisor, announced that Mathew Kravitz had the fastest time in the races held Feb. 10, while Patrick Mulligan and Courtney Beeton placed second and third. In accessing the student’s technical skills, Mr. Tannheiser selected Welby Lynn and Patrick Mulligan as overall best girl and boy skiers.
Alexander Hart was selected as best younger skier, who was skiing in a class above his age group. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to each of the three top skiers in each class division at the spring sports banquet.
