1/2 c. chopped nuts
Drain pineapple well; put juice ir a large glass bowl. In microwave oven, heat juice 1 to 2 minutes or high (juice should be hot, but not boiling). Add and dissolve jello. Cool. Add buttermilk and pineapple and put in refrigerator until mixture starts to thicken. Fold in dessert topping and nuts. Pour in large pyrex dish or several small molds. Serves 16.
Note: To adapt this recipe, use unsweetened pineapple packed in juice, low-calorie gelatin and lowcalorie whipped topping. You might be surprised that this salad has buttermilk in it. The tartness of the buttermilk cuts the really sweet taste of the gelatin.
