“Hydrologic unit planning helps us target limited funding to areas with the greatest need,” said Mr. Love.
Even with cost share program changes, SWCD staff anticipate that, as in years past, demand for cost share assistance will exceed the funding available. While some of the program’s conservation practices are paid at a straight per acre rate, others are cost shared on a percentage basis up to 75 percent. In some cases, the USDA Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) or Virginia Department of Forestry also pay a percentage.
