Supervisors
take actions
Several actions from the Board of Supervisors meeting were not included in last week’s story about their Feb. 3 monthly meeting. The supervisors:
• Delayed action on tax relief for the elderly. The board voted to readvertise the proposal for next month exempting only taxes on those qualified who have incomes less than $12,500.
• Decided to also hold a public hearing on an ordinance to require that electricians, plumbers and heating ventilation and air conditioning contractors meet tradesman certification standards.
• Agreed that County Attorney Peter Luke should ask for an Attorney General’s opinion on whether the county is required to extract business taxes.
• Voted to pay members of the Equalization Board $30 per day.
• Agreed to hold a meeting Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in the basement of the Circuit Clerk’s office to consider proposals by two firms for E-911 systems and consider proposals for the engineering studies required for the next landfill section.
• Agreed that when items are added to the board’s agenda on the day of the meeting, action will require unanimity of those in attendance to be effective. Otherwise the item will be carried over until the next meeting.
