Col. Luke said, ‘There is more visual noise along the roads and lesser slopes than on the conservation slopes.” He said such a brochure should be broader. He suggested a brochure about the county available to everybody that would point out such things as the lack of trash pickup or pharmacies.
Phil Irwin praised the brochure on ridgetop development as did Joy Sloane.
Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes said that the brochure “misses the most important point. The ridge tops were caused by shifting plates and upheavals of rocks. There are tremendous fractures. If you put septic tanks and drainfields up there, you are going to compromise those fractures. If you keep on doing this, you are going to have serious problems.”
“If that is right, there ought to be a law against it,” Col. Bingham said.
Mr. McCarthy said the Planning Commission has funds to do a study of the county’s water resources and will consider the threats to the underground water supply.
