On Tuesday evening, Virginia’s Republican heavyweights unloaded a broadside against one of their own.
The state’s senior U.S. Senator, John Warner, was handed the blame for Oliver North’s defeat in a close race against incumbent Charles Robb.
From party chairman Patrick McSweeney to Mike Farris, they drubbed Warner for his refusal to support North and his outspoken opposition to the party’s candidate. Marshall Coleman, who mounted an independent campaign with Sen. Warner’s support as a protest against North also drew their wrath.
Mr. McSweeney suggested that the party needs greater “discipline” — as if the censures and public snubs Warner has already received aren’t enough.
