Computers in each school and at the school board office all require reprogramming to offset the infamous Year 2000 computer problem. Gangel noted that the Columbia computer systems in each school are affected, along with the finance software used in the school board office to pay bills and such. The state might provide help for the school com-j puters, but the finance software needs upgrading, as well.

Also under new business, Makela described a presentation he and Crocker heard at a recent conference that highlighted the importance of having comprehensive, accurate minutes for board meetings. The board discussed various types of technology and recordkeeping that could be used to accurately document their meetings for both historical and legal purposes.
