Actually, though, On Qui and all the rest were very well behaved on our excursion. They handled trash monsters and scary manhole covers with ease. Barking dogs and mothers with strollers were nothing. I would have had to peel my old mare off the moon.

The worst was. that I did almost take out a couple of sideview mirrors, though. They are just the right height for your stirrups. Trucks, like UPS and FedEx have extended mirrors and they will take you right out of the saddle when they pass if you are not watching.

I give the Park Police a lot of credit — it takes much time and patience to get these highstrung animals used to the every day city life and the dangers within. Each day is a different adventure for them and their horses, and they handle it — with apparent confidence and great panache — just one day at a time.
