The life of hard race training and work on the track seemed difficult, and walking the beat appears harder, but don’t let the word “workhorse” confuse: the police horses have it good. They may be working hard, but it appears to beat running flat out in company over fences in all kinds of weather and footing. The USPP horses appear happy in their new jobs.
Every day is a new adventure in the urban jungle. They never know what will be waiting for them on the streets and parks.
Much like their mounts, the USPP officers have been around the block, seen the action and walked a serious beat. The mounted police division is a coveted position on the force. An officer is not assigned to it randomly. Many of the officers do not wish to be promoted within the mounted police division, because a promotion could mean a transfer out of their favorite beat.
