Divisions are typically offered for riders looking to duplicate the optimum time, one for juniors, one for adults, and some hunts also offer a “fast-time” division for riders looking to chalk up the fastest time overall.
Hunter pace courses usually encompass territory typical of the host hunt. Woodlands, open fields, creek crossings, panels large and small, and other details of each hunt’s event are well-known to regular competitors. A chance to ride through neighboring hunt’s fixtures is just one of the reasons to take part in hunter pacing. Several hunts also offer hilltoppers paces, for non-jumping horses or riders. These are contested over several miles of the same hunt territory, with gates often to be opened and closed added into the pre-set optimum time to duplicate.
