In the three and a half years she was there the Chelsea Square went from a rather barren corridor between buildings to an area recognized by the Garden Conservancy as one of the best examples of beauty and neighborhood pride in the area. The Conservancy, which does an annual tour of gardens (usually private) which they select as outstanding included Chelsea Square on its annual tour last year.
“Marco Stefano, world renowned gardener from Wave Hill, in New York recommended my garden to the Conservancy because he was so impressed with it,” she said.
But even with all the praise and job satisfaction, life in New York wasn’t easy for Yevoushok. She couldn’t afford to live in Manhattan and lived in Harlem. “I didn’t fit in,” she said. The cultural difference was difficult to adjust to but adjust she did.
She looked at the move here as another opportunity in the horticultural field. And it gave her a chance to get back to an area similar in appearance to where she grew up.
