Friends of the Rappahannock County schools can help earn thousands of dollars worth of educational equipment that will enhance instruction with no expense and little time by helping the Rappahannock County Elementary School ParentTeacher Organization conduct its annual collection of Giant and Safeway receipts, General Mills cereal box tops and Campbell’s soup labels.
So don’t throw away those labels, recycle them. Labels can be dropped off at the school office or sent with children to their classrooms.
A new program the PTO initiated this year is offered by AT&T and involves simply filling out a registration card with an individual’s or business’ name and telephone number. Those telephone bills using AT&T for long distance service are then directly credited to the school each month. The company has made a huge commitment to technology education, said Janet Makela, PTO member and wife of Ron Makela, Rappahannock County School Board representative from Jackson District. AT&T does all the bookkeeping. Registration cards are available at the RCES office and at Hackley’s Store in Amissville. Once enough credits are earned the school may choose computer software from AT&T’s catalog.
