Steeplechasing’s
familiar lineup
Steeplechase stars of the past are today making their mark as tourist favorites and officers’ best tools. Le Premier, Solo Sporting, Twin Pockets, Paper Hat, On Qui, Current Force, Heart Of Oak, Independent Talk, Wood Mist, I Lead The Band, David’s Passing and a whole host of others have or are now walking the beat in Washington.
Don Yovanovich, Arthur Arundel, Kinross Farm, Mairaed Carr, Bay Cockbum, Larry Hammond, Loring Heard, James Branscome, Charles Whitner and Burt Reynolds and many others are all credited with at once finding a good home for steeplechase favorites and helping keep USPP officers on horseback.
The USPP get 12 to 17 horses per year to try out. Not all are stabled ip the district. Many are sent to Maryland, Virginia, Chicago, New York, New Mexico and other federal stations around the nation. Some are given to national
