Not only is the Rappahannock High School girls varsity volleyball team the Bull Run District Champions they also have the Coach of the Year in Laura Conklin and the Player of the Year, Courtney Mauro. Four of the varsity players were also named to all-district teams. And, as if that weren’t reward enough for their efforts this year, they will go to regionals — the first time a volleyball team from Rappahannock has ever done so.
Not to be outdone by the varsity, the junior varsity team finished the season as district champs — undefeated.
“Last Thursday was a big night for our team,” said Conklin. “The district selections were made. All the coaches get together and vote on who is the best coach and the best players out of the whole district. Meghan Fairbrother and Alice Gentry were named to second team all-district and Katy Para to re and Courtney Mauro were named to first team all-district. And Courtney was named player of the year.”
Conklin said the team got the automatic bid to go to regionals when they beat Brentsville Friday 15/7 and 15/11 to win the district title.
