The steeplechase races will be broadcast to other tracks right along with the flat races. Patrons can bet on the races over fences just as they do the ones on the flat.
The sport is not a new one for the Richmond area. The Strawberry Hill Races at the Fairgrounds and the Marengo Races in New Kent County already have a strong following and well-developed fan base.
“It’s like an attraction,” Gallo concluded. “It breaks up the monotony of nine or 10 flat races in a day. It’s that sense of variety and excitement that just might attract new fans.”
