Virginia-bred Saluter had quite a time getting to England, making what should have been a seven-hour flight into a threeday ordeal. Once the American was safely across the pond, he overcame dehydration and exhaustion to trounce a field of 13 in England’s only timber race. In doing so, he captured the first World Timber Championship and set a heady precedent that as many as three American horses may try to duplicate this May.
