The town council covered a lot of ground in its Feb. 11 meeting, from the results of long-awaited town opinion surveys to the new Visitors’ Center and major legal issues.
Treasurer Louise Van Dort reported that “last month’s miracle, the negatiye 8,000 gallons” were inadvertently billed to council member Reinhardt Lynch, lynch received a credit on his account. Total town consolidated assets now exceed $236,000.
The town, said Van Dort, is $34,000 ahead of income projections and substantially behind in spending, though some quarterly and semi-annual payments are not yet due. Engineering consultant Roger Cronin responded by letter to the council's questions regarding the town water system. Though the council did not discuss his report, implementing any of his recommendations would also expend some of the money oh hand.
Washington Waterworks billed 856,700 gallons, down from over a million in December. More than $5,000 in payments were received. Nearly the same amount was charged and almost $3,000 was owed at the end of January.
In further action, the council approved payment of administrative bills totaling slightly more than $2,000, as well as a special funding request from John Norman for $551.12 to stock emergency repair parts for the town water system.
