Rappahannock County High’s public speaking team took first-place “Small Schools Sweepstakes” honors at the Hill City Invitational in Lynchburg on Jan. 15, becoming the first Rappahannock team to bring home a trophy bearing the inscription year “2000”.
The two-foot tall sweepstakes trophy is awarded to the team that wins the most individual trophies. Heritage High School hosted the all-day event, which attracted approximately 300 students from 30 high schools competing in ten forensics categories.
Five of ten RCHS students who competed at the event qualified for final rounds, where each earned an individual events trophy. They were: Senior Rebecca Metcalfe, first in original oratory; senior Adam Rogers, second in humorous poetry; senior Jami Gillis, fourth in imprompi tu; senior Ian Blubaugh, sixth in extemporaneous; junior Tatiana Siccardi, sixth in original oratory.
