GRIEF

Grieving is a necessary process that cannot be denied. Those who fail to grieve only forestall the inevitable. Nowhere is this more evident than in the experience of Eileen Simpson, who wrote, “In coming to terms with the newly dead, I seem to have agitated the spirits of the long dead. They were stirring uneasily in their graves, demanding to be mourned as I had not mourned them when they were buried. I was plunged into retroactive grief for my father, and could no longer deny, though 1 still tried, the loss I d suffered at the death of my mother. Was it possible, that one could mourn over losses that had occurred more than half a century earlier?”

Mourning left undone will affect all of one's life, yet how painful the process can be! There seems to be no shortcut to the natural unfolding of our emotions after a major loss, difficult though that is. At the MOSER FUNERAL HOME, we are longtime members of this community, which means that we feel we are working among friends, and this attitude of care and concern affects all we do. It is to be at the mercy of inside feelings and outside events in a way most of us have not been since early childhood."
