• RCES was happy to play host to an amazing goldsmith from Washington, Mr. Edmund Cavanaugh, in sixth grade science classes recently. The students were fascinated by his presentation. Mr. Cavanaugh showed the students, who have been studying the properties of matter and solutions, the processes involved in working with sterling silver and gold. If you have not had the opportunity to stop by his shop, the quality of his work is exquisite and well worth the visit. Many thanks to this talented artist for sharing his time and talents with our students.
• Parents, please remember that there will be no school for students on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 27 and 28. Please make necessary child care arrangements. Parent-teacher conferences will be held on Thursdays, however, from 12:45-8 p.m. If you have not yet scheduled a conference, please contact your child’s teacher to do so immediately.
• The RCPS inservice Day on Jan. 28 will have two components: Social Studies and Technology. Instructional staff in our school division are making every effort to master the first four of eight required technology standards by May. Many staff members are
