Not eveiy bride is looking for a gown. Christine Fox of Warrenton also outfits brides, but finds that her customers are looking for an outfit that they can wear again. And they want something “unusual, understated, not frou-frou or too ‘bridey,’ ” Fox said.
Recently, she sold a “wonderful” two-piece silver outfit to a bride. “They can then wear it to the Kennedy Center, or on a cruise, or to a black-tie dinner,” she explained.
Fox also outfits about 10 second brides every year. She says none of her customers like to pay more than $500 for their dresses.
She carries the Nicole Miller and Cattiva lines, both of which have exquisite dresses for mothers of the bride.
Co-starring...
Although the bride and groom are clearly the leading players in their wedding day special, they are attended by a cast of co-stars who must also be carefully costumed.
The bride’s dress sets the tone for the whole wedding party’s attire, said Brady. “The bridesmaids should reflect the mood of the bride — she’s the star,” she said.
Attendants are wearing simple, sleeveless gowns, often with stoles. “No more puffy sleeves or squishy taffeta,” Brady said.
